Netgear N300 192.168.1.1 (WNR2000) Wireless Router Review

Netgear N300 192.168.1.1 (WNR2000) Wireless Router is 802.11 ABG and 2.4GHz standard Wi-Fi band router, allows newer WiFi devices and older not so updated computers to run on the same network. It is compatible with windows 7 XP vista 2000, mac OS, unix and Linux. Netgear N300 (WNR2000) Wireless Router comes with a stand which allows the router to stand in an upright position, it can be laid on the side, depending on your setup.

On the back of the Netgear N300 Wireless Router there is one WAN port to directly connect your cable modem into this device so you can actually transmit the Wi-Fi signal. 4 LAN ports, if have game console, if you plug them here you will get faster speed than Wi-Fi. It has a single band taht works on 2.4 GHz. Data transfer rates is upto 300 Mbps. It uses a technology MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) that increases your range and sends signal in every direction. It has got 8 antennas on the inside, despite the walls in your house you are going to get WiFi reception. 

Front face of the Netgear N300 wireless Router has a Push ‘N’ Connect button, push the button and it connects without a password to complaint adapters or devices from Netgear that supports this type of technology. The router has a built in firewall, it has got a NAT and SPI firewall, DMZ for secure gaming, and faster speed for sharing files and folders on a home network or internet browsing.

Netgear N300 Wireless Router uses ip address 192.168.1.1 and has a great user interface which allows for parenting control and bandwidth metering. It is ivp6 complaint. It has a “basic” and “wireless” settings that allows you to choose a channel, or set to auto. Setting it to auto will cause the signal to jump between channels and you will have a drop in connectivity. The “Mode” options states the speed that you can go upto say 300Mbps. There are many “security” options such as WEP, WPA-PSK [TKIP], WPA2-PSK [AES], and WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]. For the security options choose a password. There is also a separate network for a guest and separate guest network password which can allow the guest network to access your local area network.

Ivp6 option shows you traffic metering which tells you how bandwidth you are utilizing. Your ISP has a limitation on the amount of bandwidth you are allowed to use so that is a very good option. Data is tracked in meagbytes, and the GUI will display the mega byte of download and upload. It gives you the daily, weekly and monthly usage. Additionally, you can choose your bandwidth cap. Netgear N300 Wireless Router has a option to disconnect your ability to access the internet once you reach your cap, ISPs charge exorbitant amount if you go over your allotted gigabytes for the month.

Using the Netgear N300 Wireless Router a download speed of 19.48 Mbps can be achieved. Depending on the number of people in your cable connection the speeds can vary, the upload speed is 2.10 Mbps. Netgear N300 Wireless Router is not meant for really large houses, furthest point would be three walls and you would still get a signal. Performance wise Netgear N300 Wireless is a great Router.
